80 with free wheeling hubs

Post by stilivn »

Ok so ive got the transfer case part ordered. But didnt want to run avm so i bought some aisins off a hilux. Put them in today so it wont take as long next time an the missus is away today so wont have to put up with the "you spend so much time fixing your 4by..."
Seems that when in free mode i have to have the center diff lock button in to get the tyres moving.
Question is, is this ok or will it do any damage to the axle, diff, hubs...etc?

And yes i searched but couldnt find anything on this only can i just do hubs with most reply to bet transfer case part,

Any help would be great, Cheers

watch out asins are not a direct bolt on to all 80 series
the cv splines can be too long causing the circlip not to fit against the hub gear causing the whole cv to slide inward

This guy does conversions on 4 runners and hilux's so has hubs advertised every now and then

yeah spacers are not a good option they dont allow the dowel pins to engage into the hub correctly
the spacer is just another thing to work loose in an already weak set up
best to shorten the cvs

Marks supply them with their kits. I also know 100 axles are different but not sure their hubs will bolt straight on.

i tried to fit my longs (same length as the later cv's) and my aisin hubs wouldnt fit.. spacers wont help either as the end of the cv hits the inside of the "lid" of the hub.... had to shorten the cv....

easy as piss, did it with and angle grinder an also put a new groove around the end of the shaft with the grinder..

oh, BTW I have a set of spacers in the shed if u would like them ;)
