My Lexus LX470 is now Supercharged!
My Lexus 100 series V8 has beena bit of a slug, and has used an unnaturally high amount of fuel, so we decided to fix it.
After much looking arond, the available options were:
Bullet Supercharger kit, Eaton M112 on a new Manifold (nice subtle kit, can fit standard engine cover, not too "Ricer")
CAPA Supercharger kit, Vortech centrifical, lots of pipes (Very Ricer!)
My brother (www.cveperformance.com) does rear mount Turbo's, Bonus new exhaust system (All hidden, but turbo will be audible)
TRD Supercharger kit, Eaton M90 hidden under a new black manifold, very subtle.
Due to it being a Luxury car, I wanted it to look subtle, quiet, and not be too noticable.
The TRD looked like the best way, and either the TRD or the Turbo was the cheapest.
The TRD kit I bought was off a Toyota Sequoia (large fullsize US wagon, much bigger than a 'Cruiser). They come with a TRD piggy back ECU, but it was not to suit the LX470 ECU.
It took 2 weeks for it to land from the US, after an issue with Customs. We started work on it on Thursday at CVE, and had it mostly done that evening, a couple more hours on Saturday, in between Swimming lessons and a 50th birthday party lunch, and the final EFI wiring Today.
Took it for a drive, and according to the G Tech it was doing 17.6 - 17.9 1/4 mile, and 10.3 - 10.9 0-60 MPH beforehand, and after, with a basic tune, with a lot of belt slip (I spilled Coolant on it) it ran a best of 16.4 and 9.4 0-60MPH.
All that was in Drive, without the PWR button pushed on (Auto shifts for Economy).
We are fitting Oxygen sensors on Saturday, and Dynoing it. We will be setting it up with 2 maps, 1 for standard fuel, and 1 for Premium.
Hopefully, the better EFI system will help offset the extra fuel used by the supercharger, and economy might not suffer too much.
It drives a lot better, power where it's needed, but not too top end-ish.
Will post up more details as they come to light.

The CAPA and Bullet kits start at $7k, the TRD was $3K, plus $500 shipping/customs.
The ECU was $1500.
I fitted the hardware myself, and I don't know what CVE would charge to fit and tune the ECU.

GiantRacing, go to www.lextreme.com and jump on their Forums, there is a little Lexus IS200 with a 1UZ and TRD supercharger, with pics.....
Tuned it Saturday, for 95 octane fuel (didn't want to pay for 98!) will also run on 91, but will rattle if you cane it.
Boost with the standard air box, and a new genuine toyota filter, was 5 lbs, and power about 160kw at the wheels, but with the filter box lid opened up, boost went to 6lbs and 170kw at the wheels.
These motors make 170kw at the flywheel, or about 110kw at the wheels, when new, so my 200,000km old motor is doing OK!
For comparison, Bullet claim 170kw at the wheels with 5lbs, with a bigger blower (bigger blower, means cooler air) so I am only losing 1lb due to smaller blower/hotter air, and a lot more worn engine.
Has definately changed the persona of the car, it goes really well. The only drawback is the stupid fly by wire and traction control, really hinders smooth spirited driving!

We've only towed my Mustang (1400kg, trailer 580kg) with it, and the race car (1600kg, trailer 600kg, tools 100+kg, fuel 60kg, and in the back of the LX, waeco 80l fridge, full, 5 people and jacks/stands etc.).
My wife got 10l/100 on a drive on the tollway from here to the other side of the city and back (2 people, cruise on 100k's, dead flat rd, not stopping/slowing) but I usually get 20l, because it sounds so good!

220k's is fuk all, because these were $140k when new, they get looked after a little better than the average farm hack. But even for a normal 100 series, 220k's isn't much. Still only 20k's a year. Most done early on. We've only done 30k's in the last 3 years.
Tows good, will maintain speed up hills, even steep ones, if you want it to.
Holds about 135 litres, really depends on the driving. Superchargers increase efficiency, so if you drive for economy, you'll get it, if you drive for power, you'll use more fuel.
It can be re-tuned for more economy, at the sacrifice of a little top end power (you wouldn't notice the missing power when driving, but you'll notice the fuel savings around town).
