Transfer Case Issue super select NJ

Post by Burns_Brothers_Offroad »

I have an NJ SWB, transfer case chain was stretched and I replaced the gearbox/transfer with one from a wreck. Works fine in 2H, 4HLC & 4LLC. But when 4H is selected it feels like the clutch is slipping bad, get very little power going to the wheels.

Anyone had this happen before? Or know what it could be?

Does it have free wheeling hubs added?

Sounds to me like the front axle disconnect isn't re-connecting, so most drive is going to the front diff, then nowhere.

It's probably an issue with the switches on the top of the transfer case - do you have flashing lights on the dash?

It doesn't have manual freewheeling hubs, I have also disconnected all of the switches and solenoids as it is an offroad car. As I understand it the default setting is engaged for the auto hubs/axle disconnect.

It just seems that something in the transfer case is not engaging properly in 4H and the car revs right up and doesn't really go anywhere like the clutch is stuffed. Didn't notice it for a while as I usually go straight to 4LLC when selecting 4wd.
