4HP24EH to LT230
Hi guys,
I am building a 3.9 with a supercharger and am going to go an auto behind it. I would like to run a 4HP24EH with compushift but I need to know if this will bolt to a lt230 and if I would need to change any mounts.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
it's not as easy as mentioned above,
yes you can fit the different output shaft to allow you to fit the FTC5090 coupling shaft to fit the LT230 but it's a full box strip to do this,
you will also have to fit the disco/classix V8 type rear housing which just bolts on,
you will also need the TD5 selector shaft and XY position switch,

Thanks for that info Dave, if I have to strip the box down to change shafts I may as well do a rebuild at the same time, is there anything you would recomend getting done for added strength while it is being built? Also why does the selector shaft and position switch need to be from a TD5?
Thanks

G'day Lads,
This thread seems relevent to something I want to do. I am currently in the market for a Range rover of about '90-'94 vintage.
I have never owned one before except my dad has had three...a '77,'86 Hiline and '91 Vogue all were V8's and the last two auto's which, I had the pleasure of driving.
I want to use an EFI Ford 351W so I'll be in need of an auto which can stand up to the torque of this engine. It seems that Geoffro' choice of the 4HP24EH would also be a good idea? What extra mods would be needed to this trans to handle this? What does the compushift unit cost? I can't seem to find any adaptor kits out there for ford to ZF but will make my own if I have to. Has anyone got any actual dimensions of these gearboxes/transfer cases?
If this gearbox is not the way to go I can get a Ford AODE and either adapt the BW transfer case to it or use the Ford transfer case as I believe they also use a BW chain type? Do the shafts come out in the same place?
Cheers,
Pete.

Hi Pete,
this is a good thread on gearbox strength- http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/ftopic441 ... ht=4hp24eh
and this is the link to compushift- http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk ... t&catId=28

Thanks Geoff,
It seems I'm going to need to do some beefing of the trans or use another type altogether. The mild 351 will make around 600nm, 530 of which will occur around 2000rpm.
It still wasn't clear if the HP22 is electronic or not?..... at least I might have missed it where it was stated.

Re: 4HP24EH to LT230
Are they really that weak? Is this thing a bad idea then? .....

Re: 4HP24EH to LT230
Why do you believe the motor will fall in half? I spoke to Adrian at rangie automotive who has done a few and they have been fine, I think he set them at about 8 psi, he did say he prefers to stoke them but I got the supercharger very cheep in good condition so will be doing that instead.400HPONGAS wrote:3.9 with a Blower ! anything more than 5psi boost , it will fall in half !!!
So if your very lucky , and run a intercooler and water injection , it might make 300FWHP ? ,and be totally unreliable . WOFTAM !!

Why do I believe the motor will fall in half . because Ive seen it , massive cracked block right through the undercut mains . Rover V8 engines are about the weakest engine you could possibly get .(in standard form with no bottom end stregthening. The liners will rattle out , it will overheat like shit , the heads will bow and soften with your new upper cylinder Temps .
Never seen a Rover V8 last more than 5000Ks if boost exceeded 5 psi .
You will waste so much money on after market engine management , injectors , cam , new rods and Pistons , rings etc that it will be a WOFTAM

I would love to know if anyone else has had good or bad expeiences with supercharging these engines?
