What is ultimate Engine to re-power Ferozas?
Seen a few engine swaps out there, but what would be the best? I would love to re-power one and create a great on road - off road Feroza with a non standard Engine, needs to be just right for the job, has to tow a lightweight camper into & out of remote locations, must be reliable easy to find parts for and an improvement on those original Feroza engines. For me I'd prefer a real good Jap import engine, maybe petrol or Diesel, looking forward to your comments, suggestions & ideas on this topic......Will post same message on a few other forums and report back any info gained. I assume as part of this conversion you'll be changing the gearbox and using a divorced transfer case?
The lack of a sufficiently low gearing is much more of a crippling factor to an offroad feroza than the factory engine.
If you're already undertaking a major conversion, you'd be best to consider the total package requirements.

I swap my engine with a 2.0L Kia RT turbo diesel engine that came
from a Kia Sportage. It has much more torque from 1000 to 3000rpm.
Im very happy with the swap as it solved my problem of very low
torque at low rpm for the original feroza engine.
The downside is that my current top speed is only 105kph @ 4000rpm
and fifth gear. But I can live with it.

Mazda BPD turbo driving A44DE auto and geared Vitara transfer.
160+ kW stock from 1.8 ltrs - i'm biased however the auto and transfers in already and the engine is sitting on the garage floor.
The engine will bolt up to a standard Feroza auto ( which is an A44D - the mechanical shift version of the A44DE ). These A44 series autos are virtually unbreakable - they get used in the 4ltr Jeeps with no issues.
Holden V6's in Feroza's are just too heavy and end up too high IMO

V6 commy was good, alot of electric fiddly shit, but once you have got it sorted there gr8. you may need to check with engineers re power to weight, you may need biger breaks & booster

Did the A44D/DE come in any other vehicles, or was it just the Feroza?
Seems odd that it would bolt right up to a mazda if it didn't.
Also, how did you mount the Vitara transfer to the Feroza auto box.
I thought the transfer on a Feroza auto was still built into it.

A44Dxxx came in Jeeps / Zooks / Volvos /Mazda's / Diahatsu's etc etc....
If you can source an early to mid vintage MX5 auto - ( very rare in Oz..... ) then you've got the belhousing and converter that you need.
As i'm running a Vit transfer it adapts to the A44DE with the Vit casting. My Feroza started life as a manual and then went auto - its actually a Jeep box but its the same core as all the other A44Dxxx variants so you can call it whatever you please and be right !
