RB25DET into GU Patrol

Post by mr nismo »

Does anyone know the legalities of replacing a RD28 with a RB25DET motor in NSW????? I know it has been done in VIC, WA and SA but am unsure of the rules in NSW. I am planning on contacting an engineer (can anyone suggest one) but thought someone might know if it is possible without too many mods??

Cheers
Dan

Cant say i know the legalities, but have you considered using a 3 litre bottom end, i think you would find the 25 to be a poor engine choice for such a big vehicle if you go 30/25 it would give you sufficeint torque to get you moving.

A mate's got an RB25 Turbo in a GQ wagon and it hauls @rse. His was an RB30 engine and it's got no worries pushing the big car around even crawling in gullies. He just needed a mod plate (QLD Rego), which was easy as all the mounts were factory. I think the RD28/RB30 is a straight swap so RD28-RB25DET should be a relatively easy job fitting wise. Wiring and fuel system change etc will be another story. Good luck.

I am in NSW and I swapped the TB42 for a GU TB45 and it didnt need engineering. I went to a NSW AUVIS garage and he filled out a from for the engine replacement and then did a blue slip.
