weight regs for wagon chops NSW

Post by familybus »

ok quickly!

i remember when a mate of mine did a cab chop on his GQ wagon there was isues over too much weight in the vehicle after chopping off bits then adding tray and roll cage etc!

i took mine over weigh bridge today and rego papers say
TARE 1958kg
GROSS 2800kg

she weighed in after her operation at 2200kg

what id like to know is
1) is she overweight for a tare weight?
2) how do they work it out?

cheers in advance and hope this also helps others on future engineering of there chops!

PM A.J, he just went through this, i think its gota be a percentage of load carrying against gvm. (i think) his came out at 2200ish (GU, no tray, no seats) and had to loose another 40kg to make the engineer happy.

Hey mate!

If you want to retain the rego as a 5-seater you will have to loose some weight I think.

Around 700kg was needed between TARE and GVM for my GU to be engineerable.

But as with all legal questions, you're better off asking the engineer you will be using to get yours done.

The best bet is to get it as light as possible (remove seats, bullbar, no fuel, no tray, remove second battery etc.) and get it weighed then.

As long as the plate/VIN on the weighbridge certificate is yours, it will be fine.

YOU HAVE TO GET IT ENGINEERED WITHIN 3 MONTHS OF ISSUE OF THE WEIGHBRIDE TICKET!
