need more flex

Post by tock »

Hey Guys

I need to get new rear leafs for my 86 4 Runner. I also want to try and get a lil more flex out of the rear if i can.

I have looked at rockcrawlers, IornMan and EFS 2inch lift, has anyone had any experince with any of these?

Any suggestions to get a lil bit extra flex?

Soft springs with a good angle shackle around 45*. You could go longer shackles but you will have to move ya top chassi mount forward to get the good angle. or go longer main and wrap spring than stock with longer shackles.

have you got leaf front and rear? do you only want more rear flex?

there are a few options for you to go for, each requiring more work and less legal than the rest.

easiest is to get your springs you have now re set so the car rides about 1 inch taller at the wheel arch than you would want to make it level and right, then you take your springs out and count the leaves, from the top of the pack you have the main leaf, then the soldier leaf then its 1st 2nd 3rd and so on.

what you want to do is remove leaves from the bottom of the pack, if you have load leaves but you donot carry loads, flick em you dont need them.

you now have i think 5 or 4 leaves put them back in and go driving if you are happy leave as is, if not go home and take out the leaf 2nd from the bottom of the pack, not the one on the bottom, if you remove the one on the bottom your springs will bend into a W

remember that every leaf you remove makes the pack softer, which means better flex, less load carrying and the car will sit lower. also when removing leaves you will definateley need a trac bar if you do any more than removing the load leaves (big fat ones at bottom found in the rear of hilux utes)

and make sure your leave length is getting progressiveley shorter as you go from top leaf to bottom.

that is a very very simplified version on how to do it and how to do it properly, leaves are very finiky and can take a lot of getting right.

or you can get some leaves out of a IFS hilux and put them in the rear with a shackle that measures 200mm pin to pin you just have to make sure you have room for shackle.

best bet is to search everything to do with hilux flex and you will get answers

hope this helps and doesnt confuse you too much
