auto advice needed for 2 gq's

Post by purplebus »

here is my predicament. I have 2 x gq wagons I want to convert to auto.
I have 2 x 4.2 diesel autos that are tired and a good 4.2 petty auto as well as a turbo700 cable type so no computer needed.

1 truck is td42t and is a offroad only car but would like an auto in it for the crawling factor and sick of constant clutch issues. can be a manualised auto if need be.

2nd truck is the tow truck and will be fitting my inj454 to it and want the auto for the towing and for the Mrs drivability. Will only be used for these reasons and the odd picking the kids up etc. wife has a rav for this stuff.

Are the t700 as weak as some say (please experiences only not my mates mate). If I use the nissan autos do I need a computer etc. For towing etc will I need to have a shift kit in it to prolong life etc.
Any help appreciated as I know absolutely nothing about autos.

Isn't there a different bolt pattern between the diesel and petrol engines and as such you can't use tb42 auto on a td42. I could be wrong I only looked into it cause I'm trying to sell a TB42 auto.

pretty sure the only difference is the bell housing has an extra hole for the starter motor which can be drilled. this next bit is the part i need to find out for sure, flywheel has 6 on the petty and 7 on the diesel but the bit on the back of the motor may be able to be changed to suit the petty or diesel. it bolts on with some 10/12mm bolts. i have a stuffed petty 4.2 if i need this part and it can be done. any ideas or confirmation ???
