new front locker.

Post by tanz-e »

Hi everyone.
My nissan has a factory locker in the rear. Runs off of vacuem from the inlet manifold. air uns through a tube to the solenoid which tells it to either go down the ingaged tube, or the disengaged tube. My solenoid carked it some time now, so for a while ive just been operating the locker manually from under the bonnet. Simply swapping the desired tubes around... puple pig sell an air switch the i can install, doing away with the electrics...
My question is about putting a rear diff in the front and splitting the air line to operate one or two or lockers. Thus obtaining a front locker for the price of a locked rear axle set... (not sure if id save any money, probably quicker and easier and cheaper to just go arb) but im curious now...
So, it would involve removing the front axle has a complete peice. Diff, housing and everything. Then installing a rear..in the front. :drinking:
All the gears would then operate in the opposite direction. Would that be a problem... there not designed to do that but i dont know enough to know if that matters.....
Anyway... Reckon it could be done?

Front diff centre is offset on the GQ/GU, rear diff centre is, well, in the centre. The front diff also has some handy steering parts attached to it that you might need for driving the vehicle around corners and stuff.

IMO, just fork out the $$$ for Mr. ARB.

Was just posting these in another topic maybe this would be a cheaper alternative than both for the front.
