Seeing I got an absolutely overwhelming response to my front HP 5.29 strength question I thought I would asked this :-

Is the Bundy front HP C&P identical to an 80 Series front HP C&P ??
I remember reading somewhere that the 80 ones are a bit thicker/stronger ?? If so will an 80 series front HP C&P bolt directly into a Bundy ??

Expecting another breathtaking response from the Tojo boys :roll:

the bundy and 80 cetres are interchangable.

I dont know of any difference in strength between them.

5.29's.........well, alot of the guys in the US run them and swear by them. The aftermarket gears are supposed to be a hell of a lot stronger than the original toyota gears. Me and Matt have run original toyota 5.29's in our zooks for a while now and not broken them.

Yeah the US boys said the same thing about the aftermarket 5.29's.
Are you running the low pinion version 5.29's ??

yeah, low pinion original hiace gears.

If we break them we will probably replace them with aftermarket low pinion gears.

Why the high pinion?

Well the Poojabber has a high pinion front diff so it will make it easier to line up.

if you can i would try and run the low pinion, i dont think it would give you as much trouble as the high pinion would. Gearing options are much cheaper too.

apparently High Pinion diffs are weaker in reverse i have been told (dont know for sure)

Sounds like there is some confusion on the orientation of the said diff. For front application, HP would be better and LP for the rear.

when i said in reverse, i meant while reversing. i have been told that a high pinion diff in the FRONT will be more likely to grenade during a reversing manouver.

its because the pinion tries to move away from the crown wheel when in reverse.

Unless you are reversing up hill, it's no worse than going forwards with a low pinion. As far as I understand anyway :finger:

The high pinion will be fine for you Mister Bishi, just never tow in reverse.

Make sure you get a airlocker for the front diff as this will add strength to the crown wheel.

In my opinion I would keep my eyes/ears open for a bundy/80/gq complete front diff cheap. The first one you get cheaperst should be the one you use, GQ you can get 4.8 gears and they are heaps strong.

The 80/bundy diffs are the same, there is no difference in the strength between those two. The high pinions are fine going forwards, if you start reversing particularly up a hill, and or while towing someone they start to hate life. :armsup:

I would say Bj meant a whole front axle, disc to disc. I think Frank will be modifying it either way to drop into the paj so cruiser/patrol won't make a whole lotta difference. :D

Bundera/Hilux front track = 1425mm
