QLD SAS Vitara legal

Does anyone know of any SAS Vitara's out there in Queensland that are road legal??
From what I can find it seems possible.
Know there are kits out there, just hoping someone has done the paper work before & got it through..

Any help Info would be great....

antt has done a SAS on his Vitara in QLD, as to whether it has paper work not sure. Maybe search for his build or shoot him a PM

I never bothered to get mine engineered, mainly cause I have a company car, so didn't need to bother driving it onroad. I think I only drove it a few kays onroad once it was sas'd.

I may be legal, but I suspect it'd be more hassle then it's worth here in QLD to do. There used to be a black swb vitara down south that had a bundera front diff and suspension (from memory), and ran 31's or 32's. It looked fairly stock and quite streetable, but something like mine on 35's stood out just a bit.

I think using a bundera diff would be the way to go, as (from memory again) the vit springs and the bundera springs are the same diameter and everything, so you can retain the coil mounts on the bundera diff.

Personally, if you want something to actually wheel, and drive onroad, either get a sierra or a hilux. Either of those will be less hassles, both to modify and legalities wise. If you want to build a comp rig, start with the vitara, it'll be different (though there have been a few awesome vits built up over the last 5 years, things like the M&M one and of course A1's)

Understand what you mean about the stuff around with Queensland transport..
Not looking to comp it, just want a small 4x4 that will not shake me appart like a serria will (& yes I have had one)
Have had a solid diff 4Runner to but they are getting a bit old now..
If they did something like a Jimny in a LWB wide body I would get that..
If it doesn't look like this will go through I will be forced to go to the dark side and get a shorty GQ but don't want to fork out the $$$ for the fuel & still have a slug...

Trouble is IFS just doesn't like rocks or lift....

I guess I will just have to win lotto so I can have a play truck as well as a every day driver....

Nonsense. The Vitara front end can be pretty easily built to take all the power a locked and geared vitara can throw at it, whilst handling better than any solid axle swap and actually having more ground clearance too with less overall lift height.

A GV steel housing and third member, 26 spline axles, air locker and tripod mount on the RHS (or hilux CV's) Calmini arms and diff rotation brackets, OME struts and a skid plate.

If you are chasing something that can be road driven, you'll be miles in front with the setup above than a solid axle swap. I've been very impressed with CJ's vitara builds using the setup above. Strong, stable, and very nice on fast dirt and highway.

We run a IFS on 35"s in comps here and it has been fairly good so far, Vitara CV's lasted with 31"s until the 35" got bolted on and now even 4Runner CV's cop it if everything is twisted wrong but that is the same with any CV.

Leave it IFS, put in the GV sttel front housing and you will have heaps of fun with 31's, just need to change driving style a little, dont do wheelies and come down with the throttle wide open :twisted:

I don't have a problem with the CV's.. the problem is the height.. the vitara will kick over most things..
just doesn't like the rocks..
To keep it Road legal in Qld you can only have 2" lift total (this includes tyres, body & spring)
by doing a diff swap I should be able to get round this...
Just want to play...........

The rules are changing but when and by how much you will have to wait and see.

An auto, t-case gears and lockers make a huge difference to crawling. If you do it right you can run up to a 3" suspension lift which will lift the front diff, and chassis for better ground clearance, approach, rampover and departure angles. Rear diff clearance is going to be the problem and there are two ways to attack that, bigger diameter tyres and/or shaving the diff. A bodylift will get the sills out of the way a bit more and make it a bit easier to fit larger tyres but it isn't a priority imho.

My swb Vit on 31's with no lift looks fairly normal too.
