I have a Bundeera rear diff in a Sierra, I have just discovered that the short side axle is rather bent, (been blaming Silverstones for being out of round...)
I have also just discovered after an hour on the phone that there doesn't seem to be any left at any wreckers, this led me to ring a diff place in the area who I am going to see tomorrow about trying to straighten the axle or they may have one lying around.
Now questions,
1. Has anyone had an axle straightened? will it weaken it or is there risk of it breaking while trying? I am competing in Masters on Sunday and if there is any risk or I cant replace it I will fit it back up as is for the comp.
2. Apart from length are Hilux and Bundeera axles the same? So if I were to establish lengths could I simply order a pair of custom length Hilux chromoly axles?
3. Having snapped a set of Sierra chromoly axles before what are others experience using Chromoly axles off road? Any recommended suppliers/manufacturers for a set of custom axles?
Thanks.

Re: Axle questions
Just got back from diff place and when they set it up to check it they said it was not bent, so we removed the bearing and all was revealed. It turns out that some bright spark had previously turned down the axle and then decided to sleave it, the sleave had then worn and was breaking up causing small peices of metal to peretrate the seal and causing the axle to not run on centre.
We found an axle in Lismore and maybe Canberra but getting them by today is not going to happen so my only solutiuon is to have it sleaved today for the weekend then source one next week. I am still interested in having a set made up though.
Re. Black Bull, I realise they are different lenghts but are the flange/bearing side the same? you have a set you say..... if you are running Bundy diffs I would hang on to them, If not then stop hording all the good bits and start sharing If I have no joy with my current contacts I may try get in touch with you....

Re: Axle questions
a mate of mine bought a 45 sereis with a gen 3 in it a while back, and who ever put the 60 series running gear in it had bugger all idea about bolts. apparently the guy was a mechanic but sitll manage to bodge the utter crap out the hubs to no end and th eend flanges, resulting in bent axles.
got him to buy new hubs from sunstate in archerfield brisbane cost bugger all and then i ordered him a set of chormolly axles from http://www.polyperformance.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ( thnk it was about $920aus landed on my door, back befor the GFC think exchange rate was about 0.78 ish) if they dont list ur vehicle, email them and they were more than happy to help as they also do custom setups from buggies to race cars. they were great to deal with.
he's been running 35's since and hasnt had a trouble, and doesnt mind to give it a bit seen as though hes got the power i must add.

Re: Axle questions
Must say a big thanks to Diff Technics at Kogarah, they sleeved my axle as a temporary repair on Friday night and called me at 10pm to pick it up! I am still a little stunned by their service, especially when they, like I, knew it had been that way for weeks so why leave it to the last minute to fix it
I seem to keep getting advise to just replace the axle and see how I go, But I would still like to compare or know if a Bundera axle is just a different lenght Hilux axle.
