Re: Gearbox Guru's?
I know it might sound stupid, but your transfer lever hasn't been bumped and popped into neutral under power has it?

Re: Gearbox Guru's?
Na mate, theres no drive either in 2h or 4L/h
Can still shift through all the gears no worries, just no drive out of them

Re: Gearbox Guru's?
doesnt sound like a gearbox to lose all gears at the same time.
When you put it in 4H/L did you have the front hubs locked in?
You might have a broken axle, this would lose all drive and no other noises. Easy to check, just put it in gear and look underneath and see if the tailshaft is turning.
If its not turning, could be a transfer problem. Are They a chain drive transfer? Could be the chain broken

Re: Gearbox Guru's?
Thanks for your input guys, I pulled the box out this morning and opened up the belly pan on it and it's well and truly farked.
There teeth striped, entire gears and cogs that have basicaly been inilated. Looks like I am up for a full rebuild, got a few quotes all starting at upwards of $1200, so unless I can fing a second hand box cheap it looks as if my pride and joy will have to be a write off, as I am currently out of job and can't justify spending that sort of $ on the old girl.

Wow, you sure it only made a 'clunk' as you mentioned in the original post?Jonezy01 wrote: There teeth striped, entire gears and cogs that have basicaly been inilated.

Re: Gearbox Guru's?
Would that gearbox be the same in Pajeros as well? If so it must be pretty common, there must be second hand ones around.
This is not legal advice.
Re: Gearbox Guru's?
Yeah was only a small clunk, but in saying that when towing it home (2-300meters) my couldnt give a fawk anymore additude decided not to pull the tail shaft out, which is probly responsible for most of the carnage.Clanky wrote:Wow, you sure it only made a 'clunk' as you mentioned in the original post?Jonezy01 wrote: There teeth striped, entire gears and cogs that have basicaly been inilated.

Chimpboy I had the same idea to, rang mitsubitishi to suss out weather they were the same but they come up with different part numbers and they couldnt tell me what exactly what is different, a mate has box out of a padj just sitting in his shed so im gonna have a look tomorro to see how different they are and see if I can make it fit, Im hopeing that they are just different gear ratio's or something simple like that.
Will let you know how i go.

Re: Gearbox Guru's?
Just had a look at my mates spare pajero box and they are different, pajero's have hydrolic clutches, where as mine is cable. I will keep searching for a second hand gearbox, hopefuly one will turn up soon.

Re: Gearbox Guru's?
x2. From what I read since, the same box is in the 2.6 triton as the 2.6 paj. Maybe there are some external differences but big whoop. And... they are all known for fifth gear failuresTiny wrote:that may not be a big problemJonezy01 wrote:Just had a look at my mates spare pajero box and they are different, pajero's have hydrolic clutches, where as mine is cable. Re: Gearbox Guru's?
Thanks fellas I'll go have a closer look and a measure up today if there the same (which i suspect they are just by looking at them yesterday), It may just be a case of swaping belhousings. Mate said that i can have the spare box for a carton as he no longer uses this model anymore, which sure as hell beats forking out $1200+ dollars for a rebuild, I'll let you'se know how it all goes.
