Broken Shock Mount???

Hey Lads,
I recently bought a 93 Hilux with Inverted rear shocks amongst other things but while driving on the road last weekend I heard a metallic snapping noise, so I get out to find my rear lower shock mount snapped in half!
On closer inspection I found that the shocks are only 'single pinned' meaning that they only bolt to the vehicle on one side instead of bolted through with the braket on either side. In my experience this seems to be a much weaker option of mounting the shocks but I'm curious to ask you all if this is done for more flex or any particular reason?

I bought the Hilux with most of the hard work done but it was geared more towards rock crawling, could this be the reason?

I've since been to Snake Racing and bought some of the regular universal lower mounts which I'm in the process of fitting up but I'm also curious about the upper mounts which are also bolted to the inverted centre mount crossmember at only one point... Should I be aiming to strengthen them as well?

Stupid question but are the shocks designed to run upside down ?

Sorry, they're not actually mounted upside down, i borrowed the name of the conversion kit from snake racing's website. The shocks are normal way around with the housing at the bottom. It's got Racho 9000's in it but it's set up with the shocks being both centre mounted at the top and heading towards the rear axle at 30 degrees to each other instead of on the outside of the axle as standard.

I run mine with 2 tabs on the diff housing and a huge bolt welded to the upper crossmember.

Do whatever method that keeps the shock mounted to the diff. There's no performance reason for single shear mounts.

Single will load up too much. You need a full mount option.

A single sided mount is fine if it's strong enough.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll be welding the top bolts in place and continue fitting the double sided mounts at the bottom.
Then see what breaks next!
