1kz-TE Glow plug indicator KZJ96

Post by nicinnz »

Hi got an issue with my glow plug indicator light it only comes on for about 1.5 seconds.
I have new genuine Toyota glow plugs, they do continue to glow for about 15 seconds even after the light goes out so I just wait ten seconds before starting. A friends Prado glow light stays on allot longer than mine.
Anyone got a clue to what could be the problem? Maybe a temp sensor? If so where is it located?

My 93 Surf 1KZ motor does the same thing- so i just wait for my boost gauge to go thru its startup cycle before cranking and it normally works fine!

No it doesn't start straight after the light goes off you have to keep cranking it, I usually wait for 10 seconds of so (I wait until the electric aerial has fully extended, make a good timer) It been -2 to -6 degrees here in the mornings

5 seconds is long enough. Direct injection motors kick over easy anyway.

1KZ-TE's are an Indirect injection motor... bitch of a thing to start if your plugs fail too...
