Hi,
My wipers seized up a few weeks back.
It's been at the local mechanics for almost 2 weeks now!
I was able to provide them with a spare wiper motor but that wasn't the problem apparently.
They tell me it's to do with the window wiper regulator not allowing it move or the motor do its thing. They tell me it was $160- for a new regulator.
Has anyone else had similar problems? Is it really the regulator (long metal rod) that can seize up?
Apparently they ordered the part from VIC but that was a week ago now & I want my car back.
Thanks,
PS

Re: Window wiper seized up...
There are a few moving parts that can jam up. Unless its seriously munted, all they usually need is to be taken apart and lubed. Its a pretty easy job to do yourself.
Re: Window wiper seized up...
I had mine seize up on me out of the blue. It was raining and they literally just stopped moving. Lucky for me in was only light rain and I wasn't far from home.
I did the usual, checked the fuse and that power was getting to the motor (easy with the fold down soft top windows!!). I disconnected the linkages from the motor and found the motor was all good. Turned out the drivers side shaft had seized. It was the part that's bolted through the windscreen and has the splines on the outside for the wiper's to bolt onto and a lever arm inside for the linkages. I pulled them out, hit them with a wire wheel (to get the corrosion and crap off) and assembled them with fresh grease and they haven't missed a beat!!

I got my car back Sat arvo but no more than 2hrs later I was driving it for less than 30mins & I started getting a lot of steam coming through the air con vents. It was pretty bad & I called up the mech & told him I'm bring it back considering I paid $$$ for the wipers to get fixed.
But looks like another problem now. So the steam is being caused by the coolant. Lots of coolant is leaking into the drivers side floor & some under the car.
It used to leak water when it rained on the drivers side so I think they've pulled a tube out or something.
I haven't checked the radiator yet. It was too hot & so when I drove it 3klms I then called up to have it towed.
BTW this all happened of course after they pulled out the dash to fix the wipers.

Re: Window wiper seized up...
2 things I could think of. If U've got a tin top, did you disconnect the window washer line when you pulled your dash apart? Otherwise, and more likely as you mentioned coolant, is your heater core (small radiator looking thing behind the middle of your dash). I'd check the lines on the firewall, otherwise it may have been damaged in the process.
