Reading 3RZ diagnostic codes?

Post by yamaha__308 »

I've just done a 3RZ conversion into a LN65 hilux and engine runs and drives great, but it's throwing a code after warming up after 10mins of driving. It goes great apart from a slightly high idle after warming up. I am thinking maybe IAC.

I tried to get the codes to flash by jumping Tc and E1 but this didn't work. Are there any conditions that prevent it from going into diagnostic mode?

The only terminals in the engine bay diagnosis plug are +B, E1, AB and Tc. Do stock 3RZ's come with a plug under the dash for diagnosis? And how does this plug connect to the ECU? I have Plug E, a 7 pin plug from the engine loom, with maybe 3 or 4 pins populated. Can I bridge any of these to flash codes? Or maybe the body harness plug?

I will scan the pages out of my manual tomorrow if you don't get any other answers if you'd like.

That'd be great mate, even a brief gist of it would be good. Which manual do you have? 3RZ?

I have plenty of US FSM's, but there not much help here.

Extract Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC)

Check connector

1. turn ignition off, ac off, and in N
2. turn ignition on but don't start the engine
3. short terminals TE1 and E1 of the check connector (in engine bay) using a service wire

DLC3 Connector under steering column on dash

Codes can be read by shorting out termnals 13 and 4 with jumper wire.

To extract the codes follow the steps

1. turn ignition off, ac off, and in N
2. turn ignition on but don't start the engine
3. Short terminals 14 (TC) and 4 (CG) of the DLC3 connecter
4. Disconnect jumper wire from terminals when finished extracting codes.

I will try and scan the rest, there is a shitload of pictures showing the different codes etc.

Won't be till tomorrow night though.

i got this manual http://www.pitstop.net.au/view/products ... /plu/14919" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks for the effort Weiner! That confirms what I found also.

The thing is, I have no DLC3 connector, and no TE1 pin in the engine bay plug.

Is there any wiring diagrams showing the connection between the DLC3 and ECU and connector in engine bay? That would be sweet.

These are the 6 wires I get from the engine bay plug:

Only E1, +B, Tc, AB and 2 W ones:

This is the plug at the ECU, 7 pins but only 3 populated:

So common (and accounted for) wires are: green/red (w~), purple (Tc) and black/blue(w~).

Which leaves: red/blue(+B), pink/black (AB) and brown (E1).

I'll follow these back and see where they end up.

So looking at the ECU plugs these are the similarities:

- green/red to Pin 4 on Plug B (16 pin)
- red/blue to Pin 1 and 10 on Plug D (12 pin), Pin 12 on Plug 2 (22 pin), Pin 12 on Plug A (26 pin)
- brown (ground)
- black/blue to Pin 20 on Plug A (26 pin)
- purple to Pin 15 on Plug C (22 pin)
- pink/black to Pin 2 on Plug D (13 pin)

I have to get my scanner working, but here are a few pics I snapped of the book before.

Linked them cause they are big

Thanks mate! Looks like I might have to get a manual and do some wire tracing..

But I'm going to put that project on hold for a bit - I found what was causing the ECU to throw codes and all is good now. (stuck thermostat not giving block water temp sensor any input)..
