Do Feroza motors recover from serious overheating???

A mate really severely overheated his Feroza ll engine, only done 150,000 klms, something went horribly wrong, maybe thermostat, radiator, water pump, head, gasket or a combination of things, this model had oil cooler tube from oil filter base which connected to bottom radiator tank so oil got dam hot too. No water came out exhaust, bit of smoke when hot out exhaust, next day, re- filled coolant, engine started easily, ran ok, no smoke, all cylinders firing, took 35 min to commence overheatng again. Guy doing everything to find fix to problem, has not removed head, motor still complete. Big question is that as this motor nearly completely cooked, is it possible that rings, bearings, pistons could still be ok, or do you expect engine to just get worse, suffer badly after overheat problem is solved? Anyone out there had this happen and experienced an engine that can just cope with being previously cooked?????

How Severely is Serverly???
mine used do stray into the red all the time for fairly long periods as the water pump went as was pretty much running with no coolant. new pump. and touch wood, she runs no problem... for now.

I did however used to own a old proton saga, which basically caught fire.... never did work again after that...

Spoke with guy last night, he told me that Feroza almost boiled dry whilst drivng in Melbourne, he cooled it down, kept motor running then added coolant slowly, had to repeat this several times whilst driving 120 kms, 10 klms from home he claims he lost all coolant and she was as hot as hell with motor not running so well, could have fried eggs on it, got towed home from there, has been worried ever since, guy really looked after his feroza, actually usually treated his car better than his girlfriend.

Remove head.
Scrub block with Steel wool and wipe clean with mineral spirits.
Have head checked for true, and lapped if need be.
Give head gasket a good blast with some hylomar on both sides.

Re-assemble.

Yes, you've done your head gasket.

You wont get any oil in coolant or vice versa on these engines. Its an easy job and should leave you with change to buy a 6 pack from $200.

If its got that hot it will have lost ring tension....... sure a new head gasket will keep the water in but it isn't going to even run like it did.

So it depends on his expectations - get the motor "going" or really fix it.

Valid point MM, albeit I cooked my HD powered charade fairly severely, replaced HG and she still went like the clappers...?

Checked out that overheated engine, it starts ok, haven't replaced head gasket, radiator seemed to be main problem, had core cleared & tanks resoldered, replaced idler pulley bearing, all new belts, new coolant etc. Engine run fine at below 2000 revs, no smoke or steam, all seemed ok, then after 20 minutes lifted revs higher, no bubbles in radiator but at 2500 revs or more a rattling knock is heard from no 1 cylinder region, engine never missed, but if No 1 lead was removed then knock ceased, got us a bit concerned, all compressions were ok, in fact No.1 was perfect, have two Ferosa's here at moment, mine with engine stuffed & one that had overheating problem, is hard to convince Missus that they are any good, need some ideas & suggestions. About that overheated Feroza not the Missus.....!

I have had a thermostat fail before. After testing (took ages to open at the set temp) I cut out the thermostats innards. The result was no over heating problem.

On another note I have had a water pump fail resulting in the engine becomming quite hot. I replaced the water pump expecting the head gasket to be buggered too, however it was still fine.
