Disco 2 Turning Circle

Post by Series - V8 »

Curently driving a petrol 100 series cruiser. Am looking to reduce the planets reliance on fossil fuels by changing to a turbo diesel disco 2. I took one for a test drive on the weekend but was very surprised about the turning circle. I nearly didn't make it around at the end of a culdesac where the cruiser would have done it easily.

Is the issue CVs or tyres clashing with radius arms? Does winding the turn stops in provide much improvement.

I used to have a rangie that seemed to turn much better than the disco and I thought they were the same/similar wheel base.

There were some that came with steering stops that were too long - I think these were the ones with 18" rims. You can change them back to the normal steering stops without drama.

Thanks Slunnie will keep it mind.

I also notice the disco 2 has a different stud pattern to previous landies but I am sure someone make steel rims for them.

No probs.

Yeah, the classics are 5x6.5", the Disco2 and most of the new Land Rovers are 5x120mm. The Disco2 is only a straight swap with the Range Rover P38 though as the others have different offsets, load ratings, nut sizes, centralising spigot sizes etc. Disco3, RRS etc rims can be made to fit with a centralising ring for the centralising spigot and wheel nuts to suit the new rims. You can get steel rims, I think Procomp, dynamic or someone make them. The offsets are altered from standard on them. Most people look for factory alloys, they are pretty good rims with an excellent bead retainer.
