I think it...

...is an Automatic Cold Starting Device.

...senses the engine temperature and automatically raises the revs until it warms up, like using the hand throttle, and possibly advances the injector timing.

...is removed due to it not operating properly and raising the revs when warm, causing a loud ticking sound when worn, and possibly breaking off and damaging the injection pump.

...is probably not needed in Qld.

As Simon said.

Just I think he forgot to mention that if it is working properly it makes no difference to pump timing ect once the coolant is at working temp and they are normaly removed when they bugger up as the cost for a new one is upward of $350 and not realy needed in warmer climates.

I have had mine removed for about 18 months.

Get a blanking plate from any deisel injection shop. Nothing special just a plate and a new o-ring. Just ask for a blanking plate for the ACSD, they will know what you are talking about.

...and a joiner or new piece of pipe to route the water line that normally goes to the ACSD back into the engine.
