1983 Patrol LWB turbo diesel questions

Post by berazafi »

I am thinking of bying this car $4000, no reg rwc, seems in reasonable nick - needs new carpet, little rust etc, engine seems ok (no blowby), little smoky - prob needs injectors. My thoughts were buy and spend about $6000 making into reliable 4x4. Seems everything in car yard diesel patrol is impossible to get an over $10000 does this seem reasonable. Any problems with this model - I am assuming its a MQ model am i correct

Also I am in eastern suburbs Victoria can anyone recomend a good diesel mechanic for the injection system

If u would like my honest opinion on it, i would say that the car u r thinking of buying is way too dear. MQ patrols are worth less than that in standard form and this one doesnt even hav REGO. An unregoed MQ is worth very little to be honest.
If ya shop around for a while then i reckon u will pick up a regoed one for $3000.

cheers

Yeah James's car sounds better for that kinda dosh.

For $10k all up you should be looking at a GQ (my choice) or a seriously done up MQ.

When I weighed it all up I decided to get a GQ as it has coils all round, discs all round, and is much newer obviously, which means it has a less repulsive interior than the MQs.

But yeah. Four grand for an unrego'd, smokey patrol is a really crap deal. I wouldn't touch it.

Yeah, When ur talking about $7000 plus, An MQ would want to be in really good nick and SERIOUSLY done up. Red Rover urs sounds OK for that money with lockers etc.
MQ's arent worth that much.
If i got the body nicely fixed up and sprayed on mine i would only sell it for a starting bit of about $6500.
Thats sprung on 35's with excellent stereo and a fully rebuilt 308 duel fuel engineered body lift etc. and recaro buckets all that.

If i was spending 10 grand on a car, id buy a good nic MQ with rego for $3000 to tinker with and spend $7000 on an 89 - 90 GQ SWB for road and play.
My opinion.

cheers,

You wont get a good turbo deisel GQ for that price. Try to find a standard one they go better than an sd33 without a turbo.
Don't ask me, ask them. I'm just runnin for my life myself.
Well they are all following you...
No they ain't, I'm just in front...............
