Moving aircon condenser behind radiator

Post by noodle »

Will it effect my ac much if the aircon condensor is moved behind the radiator ? need a
bit more room in the front of my gu for my highmount.

Its a holden v8 so theres about 200m clearance between the engine. Its also running thermos inside a shroud.

Cheers

I build a couple of plates that screwed to the original radiator mounting points and the spaced the top of the radiator back toward the engine. This allowed me just enough room to put my front mount intercooler between the radiator and the center upright support and left plenty of room for the high mount. This would be easier than swapping them around.

The radiator is a huge PWR unit and cannot be moved back further without cutting into the body.
So I thought it would be the easiest option.

My radiator was a PWR alloy one as well. Is yours not made for the GU? Your aircon won't be as cool as it is now. But if you don't mind that then there shouldn't be any problems with moving it behind the radiator apart from mounting your fans if they are electric.

I don't have my race truck anymore but the base of the radiator used original mounts and I layed the top of it back about 100mm. I ran thermos on my TD42T so I didn't have any problem with the fan hitting the radiator. If I had wanted to I could have move the bottom rearward as well if I had built mounts but I only needed to run the piping for my intercooler either side of the top of the radiator.
