xlink.. what shocks to buy? and pivot bush?

Post by THE-Burger-Ring »

gday there.. i am about to buy new coils and shocks for my gq patrol.. i recently made 5inch drop boxes and fitted them.. i am nearly finished making xlink setup.. i want to go 4inch lift but dont know what length shocks to buy for xlink to have full effect. any advice would be good. and if anyone knows what type of bush to use in xlink.. i was thinking of pressing a bronze bush in... but any advice would be great.

with how the X-Link will pivot i recommend using either Pin/Eye or Eye/Eye shocks in the front as Pin/Pin are too restrictive

Hello Shane

It is not easy to answer your question. Maybe somebody have exactly the same setup as your setup and can answer it.
But there are easy steps to work it out.

First you need to extend your bumb stops to the right height for your new springs.
The bumb stops need to be that low, that they get used instead of the compressed spring acting as a bumbstop.
Then take the springs out and flex the car up with a jack or fork lift to the bumb stop.
Now you can measure on one side how long the shock have to be extended and on the other side you can measure how long shock can be compressed.
Just order that shocks if you can find them.
Because then you will maybe realise that there is no shock with that min. and max. measurements, so you will have to rise the top shock mount to fit a longer shock to suite your needs.

Hope that helps

oh yeah i will do that then.. flex car and take measurments.. so what type of brands will do odd length shocks like that.. if i modify mounts i will definitely go eye to eye setup..
but in the xlink its self the centerpivot point does anyone know what bush to press in there.. i would like something off the shelf cos i can see myself flogging it out regularly, so i dont really want to machine up this bush everytime its needed.
in the dobbin engineering xlink what bush is used in that centerpivot? does anyone know?

the center pivot push is split it doesn't go all the way through the hole in the X-Link, its half and half. you get one with the X-:ink when u buy one.
