Just wanted to know if i could cut the military wrap of the front of my rear springs?
They rub slightly in the hanger.Will put an extra leaf on top of the main for an anti wrap set up.
Or will this result in too much axle wrap.

you can lop the wrap off - but it is there as a safety measure - if the main leaf snaps the wrap on the 2nd leaf will catch the shackle and stop a really catastrophic failure...
then again many leaf setups dont have the wrap at all from the start.

I wouldnt. Get the right leaf pack for your hangers or get the right hangers for your leaf pack.

Went to later model IFS 51" springs, so dont want to go back to 48" ones.
Have some late model 51" springs from the current shape with no military wrap so considered cutting up the IFS ones.
Don't want to butcher them thou. The wrap just needs to be tighter?

if you're really motivated, you could get the wraps re-rolled at a spring manufacturer - shouldnt cost much but means taking them out, delivering to spring guys then waiting for them to do it as well as paying for it...

Shackles are already 2" longer than standard, would rather go shorter.
The springs are 12mths old max from dobinson, maybe i should give them a ring about the wrap?
Maybe a packer between the two top leafs would bring it down tighter.

Clamp would make it worse as it would push the wrap higher into the hanger.
The military wrap is at the front of the rear springs isn't it (that's where it's supposed to be) so it's at the fixed end, not the shackle end - shackle length won't alter anything.
A packer might work. You got a pic of how the wrap sits in the hanger to show how bad it is?

Ray the wrap is at the front of rear spring, fixed pin hanger.
What could i use as a packer, steel ,brass?
Have noticed later model hiluxs have deeper hangers, where as mine are not as deep.
But the IFS rears i had before didn't rub. So can only assume that the new 2" lifted springs have the military wrap not tight enough.
Thinking of swapping out the springs and shackles down the track to go lower, but that will require a flat RUF leaf pack.
the rear spring are as new and the ute sits nice with the current set up.
Will try and get some pics to post.

I wouldn't cut off the military wrap, It is the difference between calling for a tiltray or being able to limp home under your own steam.
I have broken a rear spring in a landcruiser and having the military wrap meant I was able to drive it home not be stuck out in toolangi for hours on end.

Managed to see the pics. I really don't think you will succeed with a packer/insulator. I think the best option is to get a hold of longer hangers. Either ones from the same mofel hiilux those springs came from or possibly from superior if their fixed pin hole is lower than yours.

I know newer late model leaf springs don't have the miltary wrap around the ends like mine.

on the subject of rear springs, i was thinking i could soften mine but cutting off the non-military wrap half of the 2nd leaf... anyone done that before? when i draw it it looks like it will work?? So i'd be running the main leaf and just the wrap part of the mil-leaf from the u-bolts to the shackle. (i currently only run 2 leaves in the rear)
