Difference between GQ petrol chassis and Diesel chassis

Post by pootrollin »

It is probably on the forum somewhere but is there any difference between a GQ/ Mav petrol chassis and a diesel chassis. If so what is the difference.
Cheers.

Don't think so. If anything there may be some extra tabs for different fuel tanks (i don't even know if they use the same tank), and possibly some little brackets for EFI fuel filters or similar. I can't see there being any huge differences though as all engines/gearbox's and differetials are interchangeable.

Thanks for that guys. The reason i ask is that I bought a mates turbo diesel GQ for a soung after the insuraance company wrote it off with a slightly bent chassis. Its a diesel and I have the choice of 2 petrol chassis for next to nothing. So engine mounts and gearbox mounts are the same?

Are you asking if all GQ chassis are the same or if the 4.2 petrol and 4.2 diesel chassis are identical? I think RB30 and the 2.8 diesel have different engine mounts.

So my car should have 95L or 75L, or was that just in the Mavs? I'm sure mine's only 75L as it never really costs me over $100 to fill it.

nope, early GQs have different engine mounts, up untill 92 i think has two bolt engine mounts and after that was four bolt engine mounts, the trouble with this is the mounting bracket onto the block is also different between the two.. i found this out the hard way. its all just bolt on stuff but you still have to source it and buy it

I thought 75lt was an import thing. Out of all the people I know with GQ's I have never seen a 75lt main tank that was standard.
And if any body wants to measure a bare chassi, I have one sitting at home. Well its close to bare.

I filled mine up from empty the other day (the needle was just past empty  ), and it cost about $94 @ $1.289/L, so it took about 73L. That is with no foaming, and a good shake to clear the air pocket i usually get when filling right up (adds about 3-4L). No idea whats going on there.

We have a winner. And all tanks are 95ltr and the same tank and sender unit

Let me borrow it. I have a knack for running GQs out of fuel. Should never have modded the sender arm when I fitted a long range tank.
