Front diff and hub question

Front diff and hub question
hey guys i am thinking of doing a free wheeling hub conversion on my 97 2.8 paj. is it as easy as getting triton/early paj hubs and bolting them on? also is my front diff weldable to a locker? cheers guys
Re: Front diff and hub question
1) Yes
2) Don't weld your front diff, driving off road with my front diff lock in is a right bars tard!

Re: Front diff and hub question
whys that njv6??
Re: Front diff and hub question
Steering is severely compromised. Without a front differential both front wheels turn together, and want to travel the same distance - which means straight ahead, regardless of where the wheels are pointed.team.LS wrote:whys that njv6??
I love my front diff lock, because it makes a hell of a difference to where I can and can't drive. But I rarely use it, and only for a few metres at a time - turn it on, drive the obstacle, and turn it off. No way would I want it on all the time.
Re: Front diff and hub question
is it only because of the way the paj is weihted? as 2 friends, one is a sierra and one a 60 series both have welded fronts and they dont have that problem.
Also i have a problem with not getting 4wd. i have replaced solinoids,4wd ecu, all connectors and vac lines, the actuator shaft is moving. today i fitted Free Wheeling Hubs and still no 4wd. mitsubishi said my viscous clutch in the transfer is slipping. but yet my tailshaft still rotates. So i oulled the front diff cover off to look inside. with the hubs locked and 4 wheels off the ground and in 4 low lock centre the centre moves but only the 3 plenetrys move. the top and bottom and the drivers side one with the axel rotating inside it but yet no wheel turns. any ideas guys

Yea they do, they just don't admit they do.team.LS wrote:is it only because of the way the paj is weihted? as 2 friends, one is a sierra and one a 60 series both have welded fronts and they dont have that problem.
Scott answered the question exactly as I would have. Front diff lock is fantastic but only for short periods, especially on hard surfaces.

Re: Front diff and hub question
It sounds to me like the front disconnect isn't connecting properly, or you have a broken front shaft on that side. All drive to the front diff is going to the side with least resistance - the driver's side. The shaft out of the diff is turning, but the wheel isn't. That narrows the problem down considerably. You need to find exactly where the turning stops, and why.team.LS wrote:iAlso i have a problem with not getting 4wd. i have replaced solinoids,4wd ecu, all connectors and vac lines, the actuator shaft is moving. today i fitted Free Wheeling Hubs and still no 4wd. mitsubishi said my viscous clutch in the transfer is slipping. but yet my tailshaft still rotates. Re: Front diff and hub question
Pull the vac lines off the actuator and see if that makes you drivers side drive.
I had the same problem, Now i run no vac lines to the actuator and free wheeling hubs.

Re: Front diff and hub question
wb800- i pulled the vac lines off the solinoids and it didnt change a thing.
im thinkin its either a drivers side axel or cv. but then im unsure if it is as the car drives fine and makes no noise just no 4wd. the axel turns with the plenatry gear on the drivers side but no wheel movement which says axel or cv yeah?

Re: Front diff and hub question
ok guys. i pulled the cv out today and its fine. then i pulled the freewheel clutch and axle out and i have snapped an axle. the stub shaft is twisted but the gears in the freewheel clutch unit are fine. so im gonna try find some c/m axles and throw in a locker

Hi friends,
I've found this company in Brazil that manufactures automatic front and rear lockers for Pajero, check it out here:
http://www.kaiserlocker.com/en/produtos ... ferencial/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I contacted them and they asked me about certain vehicle details, maybe somebody knows this details:
Shaft diameter =
Shaft splines =
Ring gear bolts =
Mine is a 1997 LWB V6 3000 24V, Auto trans., Chassis: JMBORV430WJ000329
Thanks and cheers, Chris

they only have a one year warrenty, why not get one from 4wd systems here in australia, they have an unconditional warrentyviducce wrote:Hi friends,

Re: Front diff and hub question
I think these things are a fantastic invention! the wheels can NOT turn slower than the diff, but the wheels CAN turn faster(freewheel) than the diff, making it great on the road. . Its almost a Full time lock yet full time open at the same time.Im not sure if anything else works this well? It works in reverse just the same too. I have heard good reports from USA (and brazil) So im ordering one to test out in the front of my Pajero iO.
Apart from been the ONLY option for the front of a pajero io, Its also the cheapest option.

Re: Front diff and hub question
If you weld the diff, you will have no differential on that axle when 4wd is engaged. That will be absolutely unusable on any surface where you have grip and probably dangerous. If you have rear diff lock, try engaging it on asphalt, turn the steering wheel to full lock and try to take off from standstill. Your tires will scream in protest. Now imagine having that in front. You will loose use of the front wheel drive in anything but low speed offroad use. That is not a trade I would make. Having an air locker in front would be wonderful but welded diffs don't belong there.team.LS wrote:is it only because of the way the paj is weihted? as 2 friends, one is a sierra and one a 60 series both have welded fronts and they dont have that problem.
