anyone have a solar panel on there roof???
anyone have a solar panel on there roof???
I have a dual battery system on a stock td42 that includes a allrounder 760 cca starting battery and a 105 ah true deep cycle too........couple with a 150 amp projector management system it would be good and is....but i am thinking of a small solar panel on the roof.does anyone have any advice???
Re: anyone have a solar panel on there roof???
The size of the solar panel depends on what your running off your 2nd battery daily.
My setup, the only things that run off the 2nd battery are a 40lt Waeco fridge and sometimes a 12v 11w fluro. I've found an 80watt solar panel and good weather can pretty much run this setup indefinately. Without good weather, I've got around 2.5 days in a fully charged battery to wait for good weather
If your doing long stays, solar is ideal. If your only running a fridge and doing weekend work, probably not needed.

I have a 80watt panel on a tool box on my tray back with a 10amp req charging two 230amp/hour 6volt battires, with this set up in the sun all day my two 6volts are sitting around 12.9-13.0 volts even with a trailblazer running off them.
Re: anyone have a solar panel on there roof???
I have put 2-120 watt solar panels on my roof rack to run my 60 litre trail blazer and a invertor. I can leave my fridge on without any worries as long as i want. I have had the fridge and invertor for a long time and experimented with battery setups, with a standard battery and deep cycle i had trouble with the deep cycle flattening and not charging up. I changed to a battery called an allrounder (cranking and deep cycle) in both positions and have never had a problem and they charge up real nice.even in dull weather it is still charging. Oh ya ya need a 20amp reg to suit 2 panels. down side is i lost 3 quarters of my roof space
