I bought a 1HDFTE that came with 2 heads but the motor was cooked. I have it fully stripped apart and the bore doesn't look too bad, just some light scuffing so I am gonna bore it out.
I sent the head in to get pressure tested and cracked tested and it was fine. they also skimmed the head.
I am aiming to get 200rwhp reliabily out of this motor.
Does anyone know what is involved in getting this sort of power out of these motors?
What pistons or rods do I need? The rods look real tanky.
Are there any mods that I should do while it is pulled apart?
The motor didn't come with a pump so I am looking at putting a 1HDFT pump on it. I know that there are some mods needed.
Will these pumps flow that power standard or do they have to be modded?

Put everything standard back on it, dont bore it out.
Get a decent turbo/intercooler and youll have your 200rwhp

being a 1hdfte you'll also have to fit a programmable ecu\chip so u can play with the fuel

Pistons and Rods from the 70 series 1HD-FTE are different to the 100 series motor and can handle higher temps apparently.

hi when you say bore it out i am assuming you mean just to remove the scoring
ie to one of the larger toyota sized pistons right? not for capacity increase
yes you can fit the pump from 1hdft i think injectors need to be changed as well plus there are some mounting issues it has been done before

Whats it going into? To fit a mechanical pump you will need a different inner timing cover plus cabling to make it work. I would use the 1hjdfte injectors. A great intercooler, no egr, a chip that is adjustable.
Then see what it does. The most we have had out of factory 100 series vehicle is about 130rwkw.

A lot of talk here of different injectors, different pistons, chipping, mechanical fuel pump etc. Should be pretty obvious but you really need to sit down and work out whether you want to pursue mechanical injection or electronically controlled injecton. Either way you have a lot of work.
- The mechanical injector pump and timing cover bit and pieces could be hard to come by and expensive as the only donor is the 96/97 80 series with 24 valve motor.
- The electronically controlled pump from a FTE would be easier to source but still not cheap and then you need the full ECU and spill control valve etc and associated electricals. You don't mention if you got the whole wiring package. If you did then chip tuning is a path but the ECU has boost cut to be wary of so you may struggle with additional boost and I'm not sure if chipping quite gets you there without a fair stab of boost. The chips do not adjust boost.
- The FTE injectors run at higher pressure than the FT injectors so not sure the mechanical pump can handle this properly or can be modded to do so in which case you would need to drop back to FT injectors I would think the match the mechanical pump.
- As far as I know the rods are all the same but the wagon FTE's had lighter pistons than the utes and this allowed higher revs and quicker acceleration but the wagon have the intercooler to control the charge temp better and protect the pistons. Ute pistons although stronger could be a step backward for performance.
- A ball bearing Garrett or high flowed turbo might be on the cards also. Not sure how much boost you need to crack 200 but I'm not sure the standard Toyota turbo can handle that much more boost reliably for an extended time.

ok as for boring it out yeah i am just boring it to suit the toyota next size up in pistons .
The pistons have oil cooled crowns oil goes in one side and out the other with oil squirters at the bottom of the bour
i am keen for mechanical pump cos i love simplicity. I have seen a bloke use a 1hz block with a 1hdfte head and a 1hdt pump but the front covers had to be cut out in some areas and filled in, in other areas it was a bit rough looking
I seen another one where the bloke unscrewed the 4 studs out. On the inside where the t belt are there is casting marks where u drill and tap and then u can fit the 2 studed pump in .
I looked at porting the head but it has some spirel bits just near the valve which lookes like it funels the air in so im a bit worried about choping them out in case i kill the performance?
