100 series 1hz breathing heavy

ok was at work talking to a guy as to why he has change tow vechicles and he said it was because his 100 series was breathing heavy. ok from what he told me he had his engine rebuilt after burning a hole in no 4 pistion. he had heavier rods and pistions fitted and some other work. it is running a garrett turbo at about 10psi. he has the breather just plumbed into the chassis rail as his intake (intercooler) was filling up with oil and leaking from the hoses.
he has had a leakage test done and was told it was all ok. if he puts his finger over the pcv on the rocker cover and then after 10 secs or so it will let out pressurised air. so his question is what would cause his engine to breath so heavy.

blowby is caused by air escaping from the cylinders on the compression stroke. The 1hz is a very high compression engine and with a turbo this is a problem most people have. Running the pcv into the chassis, or better yet a catch can is fairly common.

How much blow by is bad? well so long as compression on each cylinder is in spec, then it's not bad at all. Most motors will have some amount of blow by, particually older worn ones. In this case it could be high due to the fact it was recently rebuild. It may settle down with use it may not. Either way I wouldn't be worried about it, and frankly selling a truck because of it is silly.

he didnt sell the 100 series he just bought an f250 to do the job instead

my 1hz does the same thing and its brand new too.

I blocked the pcv by accident once and it blew oil through my exhaust to the point where it was leaking out and making a decent puddle on the floor.

Pretty normal

Mine gets next to no oil coming out when hooked up into my airbox though.
