What to look out for when buying a 47 series ute?

Post by dano80 »

Hey Guys, I'm looking at buying a diesel 47 series ute and was wondering if there is anything to look out for?

So far I've read that sometimes they can crack chassis's behind the cab and/or leaf hanger mounts, and something about wet feet....suspect body joins or something?

Any info on coming over to the dark side appreciated!!!! ;)

Cheers, Dano.

PS. It's an 82 model. Pretty sure its a 2H.

Check for rust everywhere in the body, have a good squizz underneath. also inspect the chassis crossmember under the radiator for rust.

mainly rust and body cracks. if they have had a rough life. like the one im building. they crack on the door pillar/ firewall. there is a factory join. myne is split i have to reweld it. mainly rust but. up under the dashboard u can see pretty good with a torch. and for rust where the windscreen folds down. along the firewall there. also where hj45 said. radiator support is a bad spot for rust. for certain it will be a 2h diesel thats if its the original motor.

Thanks guys, I've got to have a look at a few this weekend, as I've sold my ute and need to get into something ASAP.

Cheers, Dano.

RUST!

Under floor mats, base of door pillar, bottom of join of rear curved quarter panels, join at roof.

There are great condition ones out there though.
At first I thought it was a sea anemone, upon closer inspection I realised it was a funky ball of tits from outer space.
