Oil filters..
Oil filters..
Can anyone see any problems with replacing the standard Z170 oil filter (about $25) with the larger Z9 oil filter(about $8)
have done it with mine & hasn't changed the oil pressures. It should give better filtering & greater oil capacity...
Any one done this before??

Re: Oil filters..
The only thing to watch with different oil filters is that inside them there is a pressure valve that when blocked it releases to allow the oil to bypass if the filter fails. When swapped with a different filter if that release pressure is different and the filter fails the engine may loose oil pressure and that won't be good. The only other thing is depending on what engine it is fitted to if the smaller filter drains when switched off then a smaller filter will fill quickly on cold start and oil pressure will be reached quickly. If the filter is replaced with a bigger unit and it drains it will take longer to fill and the engine will then run without oil for that little bit longer on every cold start which over time won't be that good for the motor.
I hope that helps

Re: Oil filters..
The TB42 and the L28s both use the Z170
The cost saving of $17 odd bucks is something i wouldnt do unfortunately
My TB 42 is worth WAY to much to skimp on $17

Cost is not the thing...

Re: Oil filters..
I have read before the Z9 doesn't have an overly low micron rating so not the best of filters, not sure about the Z170. Regardless the manufacturer specified the Z170 for that engine so they should know best.

Bigger filtering capacity
Look into running twin remote filters

Re: Oil filters..
What motor are you talking about ?
If TD42-
I have been using Z9's on mine since probably early 2000. No issues showing as yet. It has done 150k in that time.
cheers

Re: Oil filters..
I use a donaldson filter which through my trade i pay around $9 a filter and beleive these are a far better filter.
Re: Oil filters..
I run z9s on my TD42, from memory they are relative rock catchers compared to the typical offering although in my instance I also run a toilet paper filter so hope that it all better than equals out.
The z9s did put an end to my dry starts which was something the genuine, Donaldson, fleet guard and the other rycos couldn't do.

Re: Oil filters..
If you can get hold of sakura oil fiters who are the biggest manufacturer of japanese original equipment filters. Or also add an extra remote oil filter. Sakuras are normally on ebay or your local truck parts shop. Around $12 each.

Re: Oil filters..
Even if they are made in the same factory, I personally think a Donaldson filter is built to a higher standard then a Sakura. I use both at work but prefer Donaldsons on diesels where possible.
