Re: Question about air shocks??
You can adjust the height of airshocks by changing the nitrogen pressure in them, but its not a change on the fly kinda thing, its a set when you fit them kinda thing.
They are generaly used for off road only projects but I believe they can be aproved if you have a good engineer.

Re: Question about air shocks??
i think hes meaning the old school type of air shock. you pump them up with air to adjust right height. i'm not even sure they still make them. seen them years ago with the old panel van with the rear jacked up with air shocks.
in a 4x4 i certainly wouldn't recommend it. the amount of loading on the shock mounts is a lot and with 4x4 driving you very likely to smash the mounts off if the shock is pumped up to much.
better off to go with air bags.

Re: Question about air shocks??
what is the issue/problem you have? is it a ride quality/ride height issue?

Re: Question about air shocks??
Thanks all!
Im going to get some 18" travel shocks, n not sure whether to go for coil overs or air shocks. Was wondering if they are a sort of hydrolic shock but using air rather than oil (like the old style your talking about), so when one of my front tyres pop up I can push it back down in the cab... I guess the only way you can do that is go air bags (not going to happen) or hydrolics???
Cheers

Re: Question about air shocks??
What you want are racejackers (hydraulic coil overs).
They are a coil over shock with an integrated hydraulic ram which gives you extra hight (lift).
Joshy has fitted them to his truck and they are not cheap plus you'll need other things like hydraulic pump, lines, cooler, solinoids and and and.
Pete from OPW sells them.
People have experimented with other options like hydraulic rams and air bags on top of your coils/coil overs but the racejackers are nice and compact as everything is integrated.

What sort of coin did the hydro coil overs cost?

Re: Question about air shocks??
Its not driven on the road yet. no where near finished.
the coilovers alone were around $7000 from memory... then theres about 40metres of hydraulic lines and fittings, 5 D.C.V's to control it, manifold block, cooler.. hydro pump.. I dont like thinking about how much it has cost me.

From memory you dont have to even show your engineering cert if its a modified car!!
Certain things like tyres would be a fail eg over track
