vl turbo motor in rb30 gq not running

Post by slyvan1 »

Put a vl turbo motor into a rb30 gq patrol. Uesed a r31 skyline wiring loom, with vl turbo ecu.

hooked up ea fuel pump into tank. wired ecu with crank signal, constant power and ignition. just wondering if there was anything that i couldn't think off.

The engine cranks over and fires while cranking. As soon as stop cranking it stops (almost fires back wards)

Was thinking must have power to something missing. Thanks in advance for any help.

Did you put a relay in for the Pump?

Here's how you get the R31 loom to work with a VLT computer

Keep in mind though that, the VLT uses 2 Fuel pumps, one in-tank, and an external high pressure one.

had another look today, all wiring seems to be fine. Engine fires then stalls. getting fuel and spark. if u hold it full throttle in keeps running for a bit. blows a fair bit off black smoke. was thinking that maybe air flow meter is no good. Bought engine out of another patrol but never saw it running.

Have you checked the basics? Does it have power on ignition and crank and is the timing set, a large amount of over advance could cause a similar issue. The MAF is in place, no blow off valves open to atmosphere? You will get a really rich if the MAF is on the intake side of the turbo and a boost pipe is off or there is an open blow off.

you need fairly hefty wire for the +ve 12 v feed to the 2 pin connector in the engine bay, this powers the injectors which are low impedance and can draw a fair whack of current. try disconnecting the AFM, it will idle and rev up to 2200 rpm where it will start to pulse, but if it starts and idles fine without the afm then you know it is at fault. also chack you dont have your fuel lines on incorrectly or a damaged fuel pressure regulator causing increased fuel pressure.. im assuming you replaced the in tank pump with a high pressure EFI pump already?
