80 series turbo K27 truck turbo

Post by Wadezz »

Hey all,

I've just fitted a K-27 truck turbo of a twin turbo 14.7L merc engine on my
1hz 80 series. I have set it up with a boost & ECG gauge. I when i 1st took
it for a drive it was not boosting at all then i relised i had to tweak not I'm
getting good boost not 2nd gear up can all push 10psi pritty easy it seems
although it should be able to boost more than 10psi i have the fuel pump
as much as i can anymore and the revs will stick. once it its 10psi it stops
but engine will still wanna go more but like it lacks fuel not redlineing anyone
got any ideas.

Thanks Wade

The turbo may be better suited to a 7 liter engine, meaning the ex gas flow available from a 4 liter engine isn't sufficient to generate more than 10 pound boost.

By ECG gauge do you mean egt? What sort of temps are you reaching and where is the probe fitted? Is the engine blowing alot of black smoke?

G'day

Yeh i mean Egt miss spelt it. umm tops are 700 under real load but cruisering at 110 - 120km userly 400ish sometimes lil lower and no
it blows no black smoke really tiny lil puff when i boot it but pritty small.

This turbo does not have a waste gate mate nothing limiting it to how much
it can boost on the mercs they boost to around 30psi.

Thanks Wade

I hope those egt's are measured pre-turbo. Max post turbo temps would be around 550 deg. A wastegate-less turbo should be perfectly matched to the engine. As I said earlier I think that turbo us sply too big for the 1hz.
