Need a new clutch...Any suggestions?

Hey,

I have been having trouble with my clutch lately. The problem isn't slipping, but the clutch is not disengaging properly.

EG. I have my clutch pedal all the way down in first gear and the car stills crawls forward, and you can't change gears easily at all. Like driving without using the clutch.

The first time this happened I got under the car and adjusted the clutch cable and it was fine, but that was a while ago and it is starting to play up again. The clutch guy said that the pressure plate is worn or broken and is not returning properly.

Any suggestions on what sort of clutch to get or a good place to get one changed?

Sorry I forgot to add, that was at B & R Brakes at blacktown. They quoted $620 for a slightly better than standard clutch.

Dave try doing a search- Leon got a Daikin (Daiken?) fitted to his Feroza and reckoned it was really good. There were some contact details of the place he got it from too IIRC. He got a really good price.

I recently had the Daiken clutch installed on my Feroza and so far it's been really good. Cost me $700 installed including machining of flywheel at Midas.
I think you can order clutch kits for around $400 from MRT, I don't know what they are like but are supposed to be heavy duty.

I think Exedy/Daikin are one and the same? They list a "Safari Tough" clutch to suit anyway.

I dont think Murcod likes MRT.

I got a new one from Global Auto Spares. Cant remember the brand, but it has served me well. Put it in myself (my little bro is a mechanic). From memory, $180 - 200 for the kit, machine the flywheel, etc.

Still going strong as, and the guy who did the gearbox told me it was still good after about 40,00 k's, so he didnt replace it.

I got a Daiken heavy duty clutch kit for $295.00 from a place in West Ryde that Leon told me about.

The actual retail cost on them is over $400.00.

Got my mechanic to fit it and machine the flywheel for $250.00.

I have the invoice with the phone number and part number at home if you want it.

Well this is a few years ago.

But i got a Ceramic clutch plate and standard pressure plate for $360, heavy duty pressure plate bought the cost up a little more, but it wasn't by much. That was from Carters Clutches at East Maitland. Its the same one i am supposed to be sending to murcod, which i will get around to soon.

Was that the clutch that you put in after the jenolan trip?? Are daikin clutches suposed to be good? Everyone is mentioning them...

I just hope my clutch doesn't get me in trouble on Saturday! I would have replaced it by know but I have to pay for my new tyres that I get next tuesday --> Pro Comp Xterrains! (31x10.50)

I put it in before. the bearing that stuffed up is not the one in the clutch kit. It's a good clutch.... rides really well.

I'll bring the details tomorrow.
