I have a 4.2 TD GU, I have just developed a problem when i turn off the ignition the car still runs on for 1-2 seconds and then shuts down hard, violent and shakes it doesn't matter if the car has been sitting or moving it does the same thing. First thing to check is the fuel cut solenoid. Also if it has an intake butterfly to choke it, check that out.

Have the same issue with mine but it happens irregularly. Would be keen to know any other information on this? Is it a quick part replacement fix or a little bit harder?

The next thing other than what the guy above said is are you running biodiesel???

Not running Bio-diesel, when I said any other information would be good, I was just hoping maybe some one had done this fix and might have a few pointers or tips on doing it.

I get a little run on and shake nothing peculiar, i talked to a diesel mechanic about something else but got onto the fuel shut off. What he told me is the solenoid shaft coating can flake away this will partially jam it's operation.

I got the impression that to change the solenoid out is a lid off affair at a minimum, so I decided to live with it until if ever it gets worse.

Someone might know enough to be able to fill you in more.

changing the solenoid in the zexel fuel pump is very simple and can be done in place.
BUT you will need to sacrifice a spanner (cut and bend it) and remove the fuel lines off the pump.
other than that it takes about 2 hours.

good luck

Try adjusting idle speed up and down and then recheck. It only seems to happen to later model td42t engines.Timing can have an effect if it is too far advanced.

It is difficult but the solenoid can be removed on the vehicle. You will have to grind a ring spanner down a lot to do so.
