found water in diesel

Post by Gee »

My 95 prado has had starting issues for the last few weeks so in an attempt to solve the problem I replaced the fuel filter today. For the first time I found the water trap full of, you guessed it, water. I emptied it out and replaced the filter. I know the contaminated fuel is in my sub tank and I plan on draining it out tomorrow. Is there anything else I should do? I was thinking of maybe dropping a couple of litres of kero into the tank and draining that out overnight before refilling with (hopefully) clean diesel.

BTW- if you're around Bundaberg way I'd suggest you avoid buying diesel from any independent servos with blue signage.

drain the tank and then buy some metho and tip her in there, if you can slosh it around

metho is spirits aka alcohol, alcohol is made by fermenting and then using a still to remove water, alcohol is made weaker by adding water and alcohol absorbs water, so if you put alcohol or metho (same thing) in your tank it will absorb the water, and the water will be gone with tipping or draining the metho.

tho do not mix alcohol with your diesel as it will alter the octane of the diesel and cause the engine to run poorly and at extreme cases not at all.

Keep the tanks full as there is less chance of the moisture accumulating in the tanks
(less airspace = less airborne moisture condensing at night)
