chasing perforated steel sheet
Making a 'door' for an open fireplace, and need to source some perforated steel sheet. Needs to be steel so I can weld it and I need it to rust up a little for looks, the openings need to be less than 5mm, more like 3mm to stop embers flying out and I only need about 700mmx700mm
Inner SE Melbourne.
Anyone got any ideas of something that might work, and where I can source it from. The 2 steel joints I called couldn't help, and all the other stuff is ally.
Or a viable substitute would be acceptable.
Thanks,
Inner SE Melbourne.

Re: chasing perforated steel sheet
I know we have some perforated sheet at work surplus to needs, but I think the openings might be bigger than you're after. Either way I'll measure it Monday so if it might work I can probably send some down.
Re: chasing perforated steel sheet
be much appreaciated.
Made the frame today, just need to sort out a nice minimal catch for it, and its ready for mesh.
Cheers,

Re: chasing perforated steel sheet
The stuff we have is probably way too big... One size, the diamond is 17mm x 42mm, with 7mm between them in 4mm sheet. The other stuff is 10mm x 43mm, same 7mm and 4mm sheet.
Re: chasing perforated steel sheet
yeah, you're right, just a little big.
Thanks for looking for me tho, 'preciate it.

Re: chasing perforated steel sheet
The local Cameron's Metalland has that on hand. Last time I was there there where racks of it in Al, Black and Gal. All out of what looked like 1.2mm sheet and perfect for what you want.
Try your local steal merchant, you might be lucky.

Nah, haven't had a chance to get to Locker Group yet.
Tried local steel joint, and tried Robot, and Bunning for giggles and still no joy.
So looks like locker group will be the go, when I can get a few hours one day to get out to D'nong..

Re: chasing perforated steel sheet
On locker group, my brother separately recommended them to me the other day. He picked up some stuff from them and it is good.
