question on the 3L GU

Post by matthewK »

Got a question on the GU 3L diesel
From what year was the 3L diesel donk reliable???? Meaning it wasn’t like a hand grenade and unpredictably would blow up 2003? 2005?
I’m asking this as i'm considering going back to Nissan patrol and parting ways with my beloved 3.9L v8 disco
cheers matty

Keep the disco, or get something that doesn't have a ZD30. They were supposed to be "fixed" with the commonrail variants, but you'd have to dig on patrol4x4 to find out how thats going for Nissan.

ZD30 was never and still isn't an engine of choice. If it's reliability you want, the 3.0lt Patrol is one to stay well away from.

They haven't made them for a long time, but that doesn't mean there are none out there to buy. Be prepared to pay a premium price though.

I think that the worst thing Nissan ever did (and still does), was to deny that there was ever a problem with the ZD30. The huge lists of customers that got shafted due to the dud motors also did the company no favours, and no doubt lost a lot of loyal customers too.
