power steering pump rebuilt but steering still heavy

Post by mes »

Hey there, as the title suggests i had a power steering pump rebuilt, new seal kit and bearing. It was still working but the bearing was stuffed and leaking heaps. But the steering is still heavy, do i need to bleed the steering part or does it also point towards a problem with the steering unit. its a na sd33

cheers

Does it makes any noises when you dry steer it?

Its possible that the seals in the steering box are bypassing.

DO you have a kink in your return line/cooler?

excessive air would make the system moan. You probably have a problem with the internal seals on the box.

Most heavy steering problems are the box because the pump makes alot more pressure than is actually required, even when the vanes and housing are worn abit. At worst the pressure valve gets stuck open, and you loose pressure at low engine rpm. rev it up and it's back to good.
The worst part about being told you have Alzheimer's, is that it doesn't just happen once.

No noises when turning on the spot just a b*tch to turn and at low road speeds. No kinks in hoses

havent tried to rev it when trying to turn ( i will have to try), no moaning from the pump. jacked it up and turned lock to lock a couple of times it really felt to turn very smooth. Dropped off the return line and it had fluid coming out of it at full lock.
cheers for the ideas
