infiniti auto same as gq patrol.??

Post by purplebus »

ok... and yes I have searched and read a lot of threads.
most people think yes but I need to know for sure.

will the 4 speed infiniti auto bolt up to the same pattern as the gq 4.2 patrol auto.?

has anyone done this.? if so did you use the patrol or infinity torque converter.? apparently the infinity one is bigger and better.?

will be picking up an manualised infiniti auto already matted to a patrol transfer to bolt up behind my motor with an adaptor to a patrol auto if that makes sense. I am hoping that it will bolt straight up without a custom bellhousing. previous auto owner decided to go manual behind his vh45 turbo.
only the first roll hurts, then its a ride..

My understanding is similar but not the same, oil pump/converter drive shaft length or something. Speak to Kewish Autos in Dandenong.

No different.
I found this out the hard way when pulling appart my vh45/gq auto. Luckily i had both the vh and td autos. So the parts that you want going from front to back is:
vh45de engine
vh flex plate
vh torque converter
td42 auto main staft/output shaft
^^^this fitted to the vh auto box (better internals and suits the vh45 better)
td rear housing (part that bolts to transfercase)
td transfer case... etc from here

Ill get some pics up of mine when i get back to it when the weather clears. But yeah you need both boxes. Even just get your hands on an old stuffed td auto to take the shafts out of.

thanks for the great info guys. i had a look at them both y/day the infiniti and patrol auto. the infiniti is ready for the transfer to bolt straight up so thats great. i will be running it behind a chev bb. I am picking up the adaptor to run from the chev to the patrol auto 2nd hand. by the looks of the 2 autos the bell housing " should " bolt straight off the patrol box onto the infiniti. the infiniti box has no bell housing on it atm so no idea on what they look like.
the infiniti torque converter is twice as thick as the patrol so this may explain pgs4wd drive shaft difference but would presume i will have to use the patrol one as that is what the 2nd hand conversion kit uses.?
can get a stuffed td42 and a tb42 auto so will grab them as well. should i leave the vh output shaft if it fits or change to patrol as it is going behind a chev.
looked like the bottom oil pan off the patrol will bolt straight to infiniti box to allow more oil to. forgot to check speedo cable though.?
will keep info for this as we go for future searches, pics would be great as well if poss supercharged 1600.

Pretty sure speedo cable hooks up to the patrol transfer.

yep... the patrol bell housing bolts straight onto infiniti box, transfer will bolt on tonight, adaptor for the chev to patrol bellhousing will be here hopefully tuesday. infiniti torque converter is twice the size of the patrol one but sits a fraction to far forward so will see what it looks like when the adaptor is bolted on bellhosing and if so will grab a custom torque converter to suit the whole kit. engine bay stip finish tonight, painted purple during the week . hopefully but doubt it engine and box sitting in there for the weekend. them of to chappy's for the bypass of the electrics for the auto so she will be a manual/auto.....
