Bad Diesel
Mate has had some bad diesel, and has what looks like diesel fungus or alge depending
Any thoughts?
I know draining tanks and replacing filters will not stop it, as it keeps coming back.
Some idea's we've thought about
- Removing tank, putting some ULP in it, and then emptying and letting dry out for a week to kill fungus?
I've heard of additives to kill the fungus?
Any names and can it be bought online? There are no commercial fuel stations here so can't walk into BP etc
How many times should we replace the filters before gone?
FYI it's an 80 series

super cheap and auto barn both have additives.
auto barn looks to have better stuff than super cheap though as they have some additives from the USA that kill bacteria.

Re: Bad Diesel
I chucked some diesel additive in my 80 when i got it for fear of low sulfa fuel and it said to clean system and tank etc as well. Must have worked because my fuel filter needed replacing after 1 tank of fuel. I think most do clean out the fungi crap as it said on the one i used, wynns EDT i think. I've put unleaded in as well once a year and that helps with injectors etc.

Re: Bad Diesel
How much ULP? A litre?
I also have had bad fuel in my petty - someone recommended petrol-clean (?) or some similar brand that also eliminated water from petty.
Now onto my 3rd fuel filter since Jan

Re: Bad Diesel
I have heard of a few additives aimed at killing alge don't know what they are called look up additives for bio diesel as that is what there for because bio diesel promotes alge being a more natural fuel
Re: Bad Diesel

Re: Bad Diesel
Do you work near a mine or major port? I'm pretty sure they would be able to spare a bit of fungicide from their supplies. Contact the refueling contractors.
George Carlin, an American Comedian said; "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realise that half of them are stupider than that".
Re: Bad Diesel
I use fuel doctor from supercheap works well but get spare filters supercheap have a on line shop and will send to you

Re: Bad Diesel
Cheers for the advice! Will look into it
What about for petrol? I seam to forever seam to change filters in the mighty Raider - 2.6i ?? Seams like dirt - but have emptied the tank several times.
Doubt it is the fuel - since my boat hasn't had this issue - I wonder if the tank has several layers of dirt, and as time goes by bit by bit some more dirt is lifting off?
