Well getting close to starting on my 97 GQ chope. Appreciate any help from those who have already done this.
1. Tail gate, will an MQ/MK drop down tail gate work? If so any tips, need it to be a drop down so I can fit the quad bike on.
2. Rear wall, I believe an 80 serries lift up wagon window is an excellent fit. I want to make the job look as factory as possible. Would an MQ/MK ute back be a btter proposition if I can find one.
3. The side tops, ive seen these done with folded over checker plate, did'nt like it much. Thoughts on using the top section cut out from a ute tub & welded in.
Any tips greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Johno

More Extra Cab/Style Side Questions
Re: More Extra Cab/Style Side Questions
So your doin an extra cab, style side ute ???
Not many if any have been done
Most do the extra cab tray back type thing
MQ/MK rear tailgates have different body lines
(have posted the difference somewhere)
The rear wall,
You enquire about a lift up rear window ???
Why ???
The top panel edge (under rear windows if u like)
Are spot welded to gether,
A option could be the rear panel top edge from a MQ/MK shorty, they are flat along this edge
I have only seen 1 extra cab style side (overseas)
Looked the part but ALOT of work
looks simpler that it is
Consult an engineer first

Re: More Extra Cab/Style Side Questions
From memory the MQ tailgate doesnt work. There is a place i noticed in the extreme 4wd magazine called 4B Fabrications, they make a drop down tailgate for GQs you can try them.
http://www.4bfabrications.com.au/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If you want to look at the magazine it is issue 5.
Mark.

Its not cool, unless it's got boost :)
Re: More Extra Cab/Style Side Questions
Ahh you got the wrong end of the stick mate on the window. What I was saying is that the rear lift up window from an 80 serries is a good feit in the cut out section of the GQ, welded in, not used as a lifte. Hope ive made it a bit clearer.
Thanks for the tip on the tail gate, that would be the way to go.
Appreciate the advise

Re: More Extra Cab/Style Side Questions
Cool,
Me understand re window
Best bet is depending on the rear panel your using or getting made
Make the window to suit
Has to be safety glass
You could get a 2nd hand window BUT check for window curvature
