2 x Cliffhanger Events in '11 .. Cliffhanger Survivor

Post by Hobzee »

Hi everyone, in 2011 we are running 2 x Cliffhanger events. Check this out ..

Yep the famous July Cliffhanger will be run again in July '11 at the same property in Cobar as July '10. We thought 2009 couldn't be beaten but it would seem 2010 was in fact better. Now we know 2011 will be even better again with a more corporate focus, with a pit lane in camp, etc.

And here's the really big news ... Our new Cliffhanger Survivor event will be held April 3rd to 8th.

Cliffhanger Survivor is all about endurance and survival without assistance or the privaledges of buying food at servos, etc. It will be held on several properties with nightly transport stages of approx 100klm per night as well as a night or twilight stage every night. There will be pre-arranged fuel drops so you wont be buying pizzas and pies on the road. You have to carry a reasonable supply of fuel, all your food, spares and tools to see out the week. Whereas the July Cliffhanger is about performance, the Cliffhanger Survivor is more about reliability and endurance with a bit less performance. Can you cut it ???

We are procuring a sand property, a rock property and a mud property. We are well into preparations and are very excited about the prospects and support from the general Cobar district as a start / finish location in town.

Price of both Cliffhangers is same. If you register for April and find you cant do it then we will let you do July instead of losing your money. Admit it - I did well getting that one by Rudi.

So, remember I was asking people what they wanted in a long course event - well this is what most of you asked for. And here it is.

The web site is up already so have a look at http://www.navrun.com.au/cliffhanger.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and let us know what you think.

We have a lot of great ideas and will be making regular announcements.

Sounds like an awesome event!!
What's the maximum number of competitors? And will this event be spectator friendly? Or will you be keeping them to a bare minimum because of the extra troubles with getting them from property to property over the course of the week?

We are going to build the stages to suit the number of people we have competing. Ideally we are shooting for 30-50 teams.

You are right on the money with spectators. We love spectators but they need the same level of co-ordination as the competitors. Moving property to property does make it complicated. Also as this event is "Survivor" motivated we have to prevent competitors obtaining the odd sandwhich or CV joint and I'm not sure I can police that unless we keep them apart. That means camping apart and making sure start and finish areas of a special stage are well away from the spectating point. I guess for now we will take spectator names and see how much interest we receive. If it's overwhelming then I suppose we need to accommodate them. If people want to spectate then pls PM me with names and ph numbers and I will keep a file and see how much spectator interest we get. But personally if you were to spectate just one long course event in a year then the July Cliffhanger is the best to spectate.

Hey Barbie - your rig is a perfect fit for the survivor and you are too. You're the only chick I know who welds her centers back into her wheels to stay in the event. That's survivor chick.

Hey speaking of Survivor Chick ... maybe someone needs to come out of retirement for name's sake ..... just thought of a whole new world of sponsors, supporters and charities ....

Survivor should be a great event, rocks, sand and MUD and now with nissan diffs under the lux it should go the 6 days. (Yes I know it's hard to believe I'm running nissan diffs). Hey Hobzee hope Rudi's not over worked while you're doing this event with me. JOKING. LEXLUX

Hey Ruffy - driving home from this one is the whole idea.

BTW we have some unfinished business for you - a 4.5m vertical wall with 25 minutes of ground anchor work seeing you got out of it last time round...

For the record entries and deposits are already coming in. I had a few people call and ask if we were thinking about it or actually doing it - consider it locked in eddy. We are doing it for sure and we are already working out stages on properties. Giddy Up!

Yeah kinda got out of that one.... lol.. luckily we discussed exactly what we were going to do when we were there at the end of the creek run.

So.. prize money for the survivor?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've read, we're going to have to carry everything we need for the week (fuel excepted) at all times for the entire week ;)

We expect you to carry your water for the week. You can live off the land and collect water in water holes and dams and we would expect you to take those opportunities to top up. But I wouldn't be wanting to make coffee with that water so take 2 containers and make sure the drinking water sees out the week.

By the way we have had several people ask us to make it very tough and then they will enter - sick aren't they? OK we will make it VERY tough. The stages will be hard, there will be lots of them and there will be a lot of night stages. I promise you will spend a lot of time in the car competing.
