just wondering if there are any off the shelf clutches that can handle the power/torque (250 rwkw)?

Re: 1FZ turbo clutch
Safari probably do one, they used to have a turbo kit for the 1fz (still might)
Other wise just try the usual exedy, clutch industries etc. Although saw a few bad 1hz clutches from clutch industries not so long ago.

Re: 1FZ turbo clutch
im with willy show us ur setup. but a heavy duty clutch shoul do the job
Re: 1FZ turbo clutch
I don't think any off the shelf clutch will do it. The clutch just slips anywhere over 6 psi. It's going to need a pretty serious clutch when we get to 15. The car went out today but it's coming back in a month for a custom clutch,it made 230rwhp on 5psi on lpg. I'll post up some pics when its done.
We're finishing and tuning a GT37R 105 with heaps of mods so I'll get some pics of it on the dyno and post them up soon. We've got two more 80's to do in the next few months so I'll keep you posted on those too. I haven't posted much about our builds because everytime I do there isn't much feed back. If you want more tell me!

Re: 1FZ turbo clutch
Then why did you ask for an off the shelf clutch brand?drifter** * wrote:I don't think any off the shelf clutch will do it.
I think you over estimate your setup. 230hp is not all that much. I'd be suprised if any normal HD clutch wouldn't handle it. Of course there's no accounting for driver abuse.

is that marginally more than hp?

Re: 1FZ turbo clutch
230hp is 171kw
1hp is 0.745watts, so you can do the math yourself when the numbers pop up.
torque@rpm is a more useful number though, if you want to know how a clutch will hold up. You can then look at the various clutch manufacturers specs to find a clutch that has a torque rating higher than the peak torque of your engine.
Hp doesn't mean shit, it's a calculated measurement based on load and time.
HP = weight(Kg) / 0-60mph time(seconds) / 0.9
so a 1fz 80s cruiser is
2300kg / 12 seconds /0.9 which equals, funnily enough 212 horsepower.
It's only a reflection of acceleration rate, and is only accurate on a flat surface as gravity affects it considerably, not to mention air resistance.

Re: 1FZ turbo clutch
was talking to the spares bloke at work the other day, he said apparently the exeady hd clutches are only 15% heavier in spring weight, thats not a great deal more really, although i doubt it will work out the same percentage in power handling increase
Re: 1FZ turbo clutch
because I'm asking if anybody has used an off the shelf clutch with this set up. sure it would handle it on 5 psi but I doubt it will on 15 psi when its making 300-400 rwhp on 33's.oldmate wrote:Then why did you ask for an off the shelf clutch brand?drifter** * wrote:I don't think any off the shelf clutch will do it.

Re: 1FZ turbo clutch
We got the new clutch in this week(Jim Berry- Race clutch) and it seems to be handling the power fine. So far it has made 310rwhp(230rwkw) on 33's and 13psi of boost. The wastgate actuator is too soft so we can't run any more boost than that for now. The clutch pedal isn't to heavy and has a good take up point but we'll have to wait and see what it's like in the bush.

Re: 1FZ turbo clutch
When people need a heavy duty clutch for the fj75s people put the diesel hzj75 clutchs in as same box
now the fzj80s run the same box as the diesel and turbo diesel 80s so maybe the turbo diesels might have a heavyer duty clutch ,

Re: 1FZ turbo clutch
Happy to be corrected but when i was looking for a clutch for my fzj80 the diesels are not compatable. If so i would have jumped at it as they are easily 200 bucks cheaper.GO79 wrote:When people need a heavy duty clutch for the fj75s people put the diesel hzj75 clutchs in as same box

Re: 1FZ turbo clutch
I just run a HD exedy 1fz clutch behind my Blown LS1 and no probs as yet. I will be getting Jim Berry to build me up a better one tho.

Re: 1FZ turbo clutch
It's around $1200 for a clutch, you need to send him your old clutch incl flywheel. Forgot to take photo's when it was in, will take some when it comes back in.stilivn wrote:Happy to be corrected but when i was looking for a clutch for my fzj80 the diesels are not compatable.
