What happened to the TRD Hilux

Post by Ian Sharpe »

Hi Toyo guys,

I was very interested in the TRD Hilux when it was released in 2008. Got some pretty good write up too.

But what happened ??, did Toyota drop it, was it lacking sales, how many did they sell, was it unreliable or was it just a one off model??
You can still pick them up second hand, but they arent cheap. Anyone here have one??

cheers

TRD Australia doesn't exist anymore. People weren't pulling their weight and it got shut down.

Hence no more TRD Hilux.

Cheers, D.

I remember reading a review of them up against the petrol Navara D40 - all the results went to the Navara, mainly because it was $20K cheaper. Navara was even quicker to 100kmh and over the 1/4 mile. Never saw too many on the road though......

I think they were hardly selling so no point in keeping them.

A bit of wank factor really, and we already have commodores for that :finger:

I reckon a Prado with the charger would've been a better seller.

agreed. They could have at least had low range :bad-words:

I totally agree with the statement above!

They didn't have low range? Then it wasn't even a 4WD then! When I think of the Toyota Hilux, I think of the old slow, unbreakeable reliability, not 20" rims with a supercharger!

I think you will find they did have low range.

I always thought that they had low range...

A mate of mine has one and he loves it. Doesnt do any serious 4x4ing though, just beach etc.

He said if you manual shift it, it hauls arse, but then you dont really buy a hilux to take to the 1/4 mile now do ya.

Hes got a big boat, 3T + which it pulls with ease, but i dont think the tow rating is any higher than a standard hilux. IE, 2150??, which is his only gripe with it and why he is looking to upgrade to something he can legally tow his boat with.
