d22 navaras late model

Post by bazooked »

hey guys did a bit of a search and this seems to be the vehicle of choice!, was looking at the d40s but changed my mind due to the lack of clearance etc, having never owend a nissan before or diesel, what are the 2.5s like now since they have been out? also lookin at the 3lt in the d22 aswell, havent got the coin to buy new but there seems to be some fairly good priced units goin around that are 2 to 3 years old, will mainly be used for doin some fishing trips and towing the buggy around the joint!

the 2.5's (i assume you mean the common rail 2.5 not the previous non-cr 2.5), the motor seams fine, just under powered especially as the cheaped out and fitted normal style turbo instead of the variable. early ones had the same driveline as previous 3 litre which made it hard to get them to get of the line with such a high first gear. later ones have lower ratio diff and skinny rims/tires. also there seams to be a fair few blow the rear diffs which wasn't a problem wit the 3 litre version. new ones are made thailand???

the 3 litres....well lookup zd30 grenade for some idea. tho not as bad as the patrols, the early ones did suffer the same fate. best to get 2004 on.
rear springs sag really easy so good excuse to get it lifted ;) front you can just wind up the torsions for a mild lift. if you have heavy front bar, dual batteries etc it would pay to get after market torsions.
only thing that annoys me is the navara version is so under powered in the low rpm. chipping it tends to make it perform like a diesel should.

yep the newer common rail, so chip it and its all good so to speak, will this effect any warranty on the car if it has one?
