GQ petrol gearbox into GU diesel

Have had a look in the bible but can't find my answer, will a GQ petrol gearbox fit into a gu 4.2td 99 model, I've ripped the guts out of 5th gear and have a the GQ petrol box available.

I have a GU Shifter stick... or do you mean where the stick goes into box.

I just sold a GU 5 speed box it was out of a ZD30 but boxes are same bellhousings are different.

This the GU BOX with the FS5R50B. Note top housing and shifter position is to the rear of the gearbox.



This is the GQ FS5R50A. Note shifter is further forward than the GU one.
No idea if the top covers are interchangeable to fit one or the other, but the gearbox designations suggest they are from the same family, hence may be able to mix and match.

yeah its not the stick itself, its the position of the stick along the gearbox, the GU stick fits further back, if you put the GQ box in the shifter will be in the dash...

that diagram is of the gear box only. the pic has the transfer case attached. i think there in the same place if u study both pics without the case on the box

Umm yeah, goggles off - check.
GU shifter position on the G-box is much further back than the GQ one. If you know where the gbox ends and the tcase starts then pic or diagram makes no difference to the outcome.
I dont have a diagram of the GQ box, but I think its pretty clear.

Yes its identical, but the bellhousing is slightly different between Pet and Dies. So you need to swap them over

Just worked this out the hard way to, trying to put a gq gearbox in my mates GU. Any chance some one has a picture of the top of the gearbox from a GU to see if there is any chance of swaping over the top selector hat between the two?

We have pulled the box back out and removed the gq selector but we wont be able to get to a nissan wrecker to compare with a GU selector for a week or so since we are 200kms away.

Why not go with Albins internals? Albins do offroad racing g/boxs so their parts would be pretty tough.

Yer so the gear boxes wont fit. Gu has a different top plate bolt pattern, swaping over slector plates wont work.

you can use the GQ main shaft and some of the gears to fit up to your GU box. effectively building a GU box from GQ guts.

other than than rebuild yours, revised GU main shafts and fifth gear arn't that dear.

Jav..its not my old petrol gearbox from out the back of Haultech is it..if so i wouldnt use that anyway...
