Dashboard warning light- engine

Post by Jimmy L »

The engine icon warning light comes on and goes off intermitently on my Vitara 1.6. I was told this icon comes on when the vehicle is due for a service and there is a reset switch but I can't find it. Would there be any other reason for this warning light to flash on mainly when the vehicle decerates?

If there is something wrong with it you will need to get the codes checked by a mechanic.

You could try to dissconnect the battery for 5min or so to try clear the code.

I think what you need is a Factory Service Manual to check it out. My Cappuccino FSM has all the details about what all the codes coming up on the dash lights mean... Pretty cool really.

My check engine light comes on after 5 minutes of driving because i don't have the speed censor for the computer connected - but i doubt if that is going to be your problem.

My suggestion - find someone with an FSM.

The american vitaras (trackers), have a neat little switch mounted near the steering column. It took me a while to find mine, and i'm not sure if the vitara's use the same or not.

Take off the panel just under the steering wheel, and look at all of the brackets that support the dash and steering column. The swich i have is about 1.5 cm long at most. It would make a great kill switch. Mine kicked on at 100,000miles for a regular service, and after switching it off, it never has come back on again, and haven't had any problems.

Good luck.
My tires were rubbing in the front, so I trimmed the hood, and now they're fine...
